In South Tyrol and much of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, winter isn’t just about St. Nicholas, the Christ Child, Father Christmas and the like. The Krampus tradition is alive and well – terrifying figures meant to drive away evil spirits and put naughty children back on the right path. But behind the masks are passionate Krampus fans who enthusiastically prepare for these events every year!
