In Val d’Ega, at 1,520 metres above sea level, sits the most important place of pilgrimage in South Tyrol: Madonna di Pietralba. Our Lady appeared here to the hermit Leonhard Weißensteiner in 1553. Pope John Paul II also visited this magical place of peace and contemplation. The beautiful Baroque building and the monastery dominate the landscape, made even more magical by the view of the snow-covered Dolomites
