Our neighbours in Bavaria and Austria call it “Goaslschnalzen”. In South Tyrol this custom is named “Goaslschnöllen”. It is all about a commanding a whip, that once upon a time served for demonstrating the cattle on the Alpine pastures who calls the shots, or to reawaken spring after a long winter period. We watched a local association practicing this ancient tradition, that is still alive in South Tyrol
