The Lord’s Prayer Contemplation Trail is a reflective walk from Tunes to Vipiteno

West of Vipiteno lies the small village of Tunes (Thuins) in the Upper Valle Isarco, situated at an altitude of over 1,000 metres. Its late Gothic church, dedicated to St. James the Greater, dominates the village centre, standing prominently above all other buildings. The bus stop, just next to the church, offers a quick connection to Vipiteno. You can also reach the town on foot.
The Lord's Prayer Contemplation Trail offers a reflective walk of about half an hour, leading you from the village church in Tunes to the parish church of Vipiteno. From Tunes, several other walks are also possible: to Telves di Sotto and Telves di Sopra, to the Telves Alpine Pastures - also a recommended four-hour mountain bike tour in summer - and to Tasso Castle and Pietra Castle.
Tasso Castle is open to visitors year-round with short closures. Pietra Castle sits majestically above the Vipiteno Moor, but is unfortunately not open to the public. The meadows and hedgerows around Tunes are protected as a nature reserve. While the Vipiteno valley basin already contains the Brennero Motorway and industrial areas, Tunes retains its character as a green oasis.
The history of the village dates back to pre-Roman times. Burial grounds were discovered near the Zollwirtshaus, the old customs inn, and between the village and the town, there is evidence suggesting the presence of structures belonging to the Roman settlement of Vipitenum. From this ancient settlement, the town of Vipiteno later emerged.
