Snodres

Discover the tranquil South Tyrolean village of Snodres, a peaceful retreat above Velturno

Above Velturno lies the small village of Snodres (Schnauders), at an altitude of over 1,000 metres, nestled among meadows and mixed woodland on the slopes above the Isarco Valley. Scattered across the meadows are several farms, some of which offer farm stays. Up here, the air is pleasantly cool in summer. The heat of the valley basin is barely noticeable at this altitude.

A mountain road leads from Velturno first to Snodres di Sotto (Unterschnauders, literally: Lower Snodres) and then further up to Snodres with its small village centre. Between the two localities, the Panorama Trail meets the road. It offers you the opportunity to explore the area around Velturno and Snodres on foot. The two-hour circular village walk, the Snodres-Caerna-Verdignes circuit, is also recommended. In Snodres itself, you'll find a small recycling centre, several bus stops, and a public playground with a football pitch.

On its edge - as in almost every South Tyrolean village - stands the church. It is dedicated to Saint George. The small, late Gothic building dates back to the 14th century. From the mountaintop on which the houses of Snodres stand, the view opens up over the entire lower Isarco Valley.

The municipality of Velturno is known for its long Toerggele tradition and its chestnut groves. In winter, you can enjoy tobogganing and snowshoeing nearby. There is also a free ski and winter hiking bus from Velturno to nearby winter sports areas such as the Villandro Alp and the Plose.
