Caerna has got some 200 inhabitants and is located at 1,177 m, higher than the chief village, above the wild-romantic Tinnetal valley. The most outstanding building close to the village is the Garnstein Castle, dating back to the 12th century, constructed in order to defend the mine of Villandro. The church of Caerna, however, is dedicated to S. Andrea.
Caerna is a gem in the green, located high above the Valle Isarco, and a good starting point for hikes, such as to the Croce di Caerna. Another worthwhile hiking destination is the Rif. Lago Rodella, offering a great view on the Gruppo delle Odle. This is how you would imagine fairytale holidays.
