Prati

From mining village to the main locality of Vizze - discover Prati and the stately Palù Castle

Prati (Wiesen) is the main village of Vizze and is located very close to the town of Vipiteno with its shops, museums, the railway station, and the Monte Cavallo Skiing Area. You can reach Prati by bus from the Vipiteno railway station in just one stop. The Balneum indoor and outdoor swimming pool is only a half-hour walk away. From the 15th to the 18th century, mining was the economic mainstay of the population. During this period, a smelting works operated in Prati.

The hamlet was once an independent municipality but merged with Vizze a century ago. Today, several interesting historical buildings shape the village landscape and silently tell of past centuries. These include Palù Castle from the 14th century and the Wiesenheim Residence.

Both are accessible via the Roanderweg path - the castle now houses a retirement home. Almost as old as the castle is the Parish Church of the Holy Cross. Just outside the village stands the octagonal Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. Every year at Easter, the Easter Sepulchre is decorated and exhibited there. The Val di Vizze captivates with its tranquil natural surroundings.

They invite you to cross-country ski in winter and enjoy mountain bike tours to the head of the valley and the Passo di Vizze in summer. Horses graze in the meadows, hiking trails lead up to the alpine pastures and on the peaks. In the village itself, the Prati community park offers relaxation with its Kneipp facility and mini-golf course. In winter, you will usually find a small ice rink here.
