The Caminata Peatland, called Kematner Möser: a nature reserve near the former Lake Vizze

Already the Romans settled in the Val di Vizze. Today, Caminata di Vizze di Fuori is one of the oldest villages in this high valley in South Tyrol, marking its outer reaches - hence the name, as Vizze di Fuori literally means Outer Vizze. The village clusters around the parish church - the new and the old parish church from the 14th century are connected by the bell tower - and the so-called Trautson Tower, which is another century older. It is also called the "Tower of Vizze".
Further into the valley, you reach the highest village, San Giacomo, and finally the end of the valley at the Passo di Vizze. Up there at the mountain pass, connecting the Zillertal valley in Austria with the Val di Vizze in Italy, the Passo di Vizze Lakes stretch out at almost 2,300 metres - a magical place amidst a magnificent mountain landscape. Mountain bikers and hikers appreciate this area.
The Passo di Vizze Hut, the oldest private mountain hut in South Tyrol, invites you to stop for a rest. Abandoned border posts recall times when passports were still checked up here on the mountain. In addition, numerous hay barns give Caminata di Vizze di Fuori (Kematen in Ausserpfitsch) its rural charm. The Caminata Peatland, or Kematner Möser, a nature reserve, is particularly valuable and also serves as a resting place for migratory birds.
One of the most important flight routes over the Alps leads over the Passo di Vizze mountain pass. Seventy species of migratory birds have already been recorded here - chaffinches, barn swallows and siskins usually fly south along this route between September and October. You can explore the surroundings on the Caminata Circular Trail, which is also accessible in winter.
