Valles is located in an alpine valley that can be reached from Rio Pusteria. With its 581 inhabitants (current state: 2019), it extends at 1,353 m asl and represents an idyllic spot of land in the mountains, and this is already clearly visible when you approach the valley.
One of the highlights of a vacation in Valles is a walk to the Malga Fane alpine pasture, which is one of the most charming alpine pasture settlements of South Tyrol. In summer the Fane is starting point for a series of hikes, such as to the Rif. Bressanone or the Picco della Croce summit. The Fane can by the way be reached on a trail that provides interesting information on milk. In the mountain huts you can by the way enjoy tasty Tyrolean delicacies. Also the Alta Via di Fundres, traversing the mountains of Valles, is a hiking suggestion, while the more comfortable variant for those who love promenading is the circular train in the village.
Also in winter the alpine valley casts a spell over its visitors. This is when the Jochtal skiing area transforms into a family-friendly skiing area with kinderland that can be reached by cable-way. Tuesday night, the restaurant at the mountain station is taken by party people and those who love ski touring, as the slopes are open for ski touring and there is a party at 2,000 m asl.
Down in the valley, there are slopes for beginners and kids, while more challenging skiers can look forward to the slopes on the mountain. The 8 km long cross-country circuit in Valles makes cross-country skiers' hearts leap for joy. And what you also should not miss is an afternoon tobogganing on the Fane slope. Sleds can comfortably be rent.
