At Stanghe, located at almost 1,000 m asl, the Val Racines branches off from the Val Ridanna. Not only the town hall of the municipality is located in Stanghe, but also a particular natural monument that is known beyond borders, that is to say the waterfalls of Stanghe in the Gilfenklamm gorge.

Strong alder trees and spruces line the path to the gorge, before you proceed down to the entrance. Once reached this place, the atmosphere of this magic place will cast a spell over you, as high waterfalls cascade down into the depth of the Gilfenklamm gorge. A visit to the Stanghe waterfalls is highly recommendable from May to October. Waterproof clothing and skid resistant shoes recommendable.

By the way, a visit of the Gilfenklamm gorge can be combined with a visit to the ruins of Reifenegg Castle. Its mighty donjon with its square blocks of bossed stone it dates back to the 12th century it is one of the most impressive of its kind of Tyrol.

In winter, you should not forget to bring your cross-country skis, as Stanghe is directly connected to the circular trail Casateia-Stanghe-Mareto. Otherwise this winter wonderland can perfectly be experienced on foot.
