Symbol of the village of San Pietro, high above the Valgardena valley, is undoubtedly the Baroque bulbous spire of the San Pietro parish church. Constructed in 1241, there are no remnants or ruins of the former Romanesque construction. Large ceiling paintings catch the eyes of the visitor in the interior, which have been created by Josef Arnols around 1845.
With a number of 400 inhabitants, San Pietro is the second largest village belonging to Laion. Above the village, there are the wide alpine pastures of the Rasciesa, comprising some 970 hectares. There are several hiking trails snaking across these pastures, nature provides ideal conditions for relaxation and recreation.
At San Pietro di Laion, the ancient Sentiero della Posta trail stretches to Ortisei. Due to its vicinity to Ortisei you can easily reach the ski slopes of the ski carousel of the Dolomiti Superski.
