The “village on the seven hills” entices with farm taverns and a gourmet restaurant

Above the valley basin lies Gudon (Gufidaun), a picturesque village nestled amidst a gentle hilly landscape that has earned it the nickname "village on the seven hills". The hamlets of Paese (Village), Unterviertel, Monte (Mountain), Froy, and Putzen together comprise modern-day Gudon.
Around the small village centre are clustered the Church of St. Martin, the Turmwirt inn, the historic "Pfleghaus" (Curator House), and the Unterwirt restaurant. The yellow-painted "Pfleghaus" houses the Local Museum, a small museum of local history and traditions. The Turmwirt, once the home of the village chronicler, is now a traditional inn, its walls adorned with frescoes by Hugo Atzwanger from 1907. Enjoy this ambience with a glass of South Tyrolean wine.
Right next door, the Unterwirt awaits, a gourmet restaurant recognised by Gault&Millau and the Michelin Guide. Gufidaun boasts a settlement history dating back some 4,000 years. From the Middle Ages come the two stately manor houses of Koburg and Summersberg - or Sommo - Castle.
Both are privately owned now. The pointed church spire, the castles, the dense village centre, and the mighty Odle Group in the background are a popular photo motif. From the Isarco Valley, you can even walk to the Val di Funes, one of its side valleys: The hike from Gudon to Tiso takes you to the characteristic "Spheres of Tiso" in the Tiso Mineral Museum.
