Sarnes

Sarnes, the charming village belonging to Bressanone, is nestled between the old town and the river dam

Sarnes (Sarns), a district of Brixen (Bressanone), captivates with its proximity to the town and the surrounding nature. Bishops once chose this location as their summer residence due to its favourable position. Numerous historic manor houses still bear witness to this.

Compared to other districts of Bressanone, such as Sant'Andrea with the Plose Cable Car, the town-adjacent Millan, or the picturesque Albes, Sarnes is less well-known. Nevertheless, charming accommodations can be found here, including farm stays. For a long time, Education House of St. George (Bildungshaus St. Georg) shaped the village's character.

Behind the thick walls, within the extensive garden and modern seminar rooms, numerous courses were held. Today, Caritas utilises the building. It lies in the centre of Sarnes, opposite the community centre with a library, the village bar, and the Church of Saints Roch and Sebastian. Constructed in 1510 from Bressanone granite, the church houses sculptures and busts by Master Leonard of Bressanone. A church dedicated to Saint Nicholas previously stood on this site.

Sarnes is ideal for walkers and cyclists. The cycle path along the Isarco River dam, which follows the Franz Von Unterrichter Road, leads to Bressanone's old town in 15 minutes. Pleasant walks will take you to the neighbouring villages of Cleran, Millan and Albes. For longer tours, the Valle Isarco Cycle Path offers a scenic route, ending in the regional capital, Bolzano.
