The village of Predoi in the rear Valle Aurina looks back on a long history, shaped by mining, lace-making and agriculture
"Breathe" is the motto in Predoi village (Prettau Dorf) - here, not everything revolves around healthy air, but a lot does. The accommodation establishments in the mountain village, together with the Predoi Climate Gallery, make allergy-free living possible, certified by the South Tyrolean Environmental Agency. This climate tunnel calls itself "I breathe - Far from the world" and is the destination of allergy sufferers and people with respiratory complaints who relax inside the mountain at the Rio Rosso, wrapped in a warm woollen blanket.
Another gallery belongs to the Mining Museum - Location Predoi: The mine train takes you to the show mine, and one of the trained guides then shows you what life is like underground. Today this museum is part of the South Tyrolean Provincial Museums of Mining, four structures that extend up to the 2,355 m high Mt. Monteneve in the Val Passiria valley. After active mining ended here, the population had to look for new ways of earning money: The farmers' wives learned the art of lace-making in Vienna, which was then passed on in a separate school in Predoi.
Today, the houses are clustered around the church village with the town hall and the grocery shop. Right next to it is the St. Valentine Parish Church. On the way into the valley, the Mining Museum comes into view on the right, the starting point of the Predoi Health Trail, which shows you the highlights of the rear Valle Aurina. Stops also include a waterfall, the Prastmann alpine pasture settlement and the Nature Park Information Point in Casere. A recommendable mountain tour, on the other hand, leads through beautiful coniferous forest high up to Lake Selva.
