At the cattle drive in the Riva Valley, called “Kiekemma”, the cows are welcomed in the alpine village with an exuberant celebration
Riva di Tures (Rein in Taufers) encompasses the entire Riva Valley, which branches off at Campo Tures and leads to the mountain world of Mt. Collalto and Mt. Collaspro. It was discovered as a tourist destination early on and became famous beyond the borders for its location at the foot of the mightiest and highest mountain of the Rieserferner Group, the 3,436 m high Mt. Collalto. Today, the area is protected as Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park, and Riva di Tures is surrounded by 32 of the 84 three thousanders of the Valli di Tures and Aurina.
The Val di Riva valley is a natural paradise with a special highlight, the Riva Waterfalls. These are three waterfalls that cascade over the rocks of the Tobl Gorge. A trail leads you past this impressive natural monument and to the viewing pulpit. They also offer a special spectacle in winter, when they are frozen over. At this time of the year, ice climbing is the order of the day, e.g. at the Tristenbach stream and the ice climbing garden behind the Angerer snack station. In addition, there are the wonderful cross-country ski tracks for classic and skating style and the small ski lift.
In high summer, a hike to the charming alpine huts all around is recommended: These include the Knutten Hut, the Vedrette di Ries Hut and the Roma Hut, a historic refuge to which numerous alpinists went on a pilgrimage on the "Herrenweg" path already in 1911. Riva di Tures is also a well-known base along the Klammlrunde, an approximately 100 km long MTB tour that leads via the village and the Passo di Gola, called Klammljoch in German, to Defereggen in East Tyrol.
