The highest church tower of Tyrol watches over the main village of Silandro, a holiday resort with urban flair and orchards all around

At the entrance to the rustic Valle di Silandro, the centre of Silandro spreads out: It is more than a village, rather a small town with a pedestrian zone, narrow alleys and wide streets, fashion chains and small village shops, ice cream parlours and the Plawenn Park. An exhibition is also part of it: avimundus is dedicated to the bird life in the Stelvio National Park. Above it rises the 90 metres high tower of the parish church, which is the highest in Tyrol. On the outskirts of the village, next to the open-air swimming pool, is the only hospital in the Val Venosta, the next one is in Merano.
Among the sights of Silandro are Silandro Castle and Castel Monte di Silandro or Schlandersberg, the Beheimturm Manor, the Sachsalberhaus Residence and the commandry of the Teutonic Order. The walled Capuchin Garden and the baroque garden house inside were placed under direct monument protection in 2024: The garden, laid out in the 17th century as a kitchen garden and pleasure garden, will be made accessible to the public. The name Karl Schönherr appears here again and again, because the Tyrolean doctor and poet spent several years of his childhood in Silandro village (Schlanders Dorf). The house of culture with cinema hall is dedicated to him.
Situated in the midst of sun-drenched orchards, Silandro is an ideal starting point for your journey of discovery through the Val Venosta. All around are the old irrigation channels with the Waalwege paths, such as the Neuwaal, which leads into the Valle di Silandro, the Kastanienwaal (Chestnut Waal), and trails along the wild Adige River. Part of the Via Claudia Augusta Cycle Route also passes by the centre, in this section it is called Val Venosta Cycle Path - you can return with one of the colourful trains of the Val Venosta Railway that stop in Silandro.
