Ganda di Martello

A pleasant hike starts at Ganda and leads to the Martello High Route, to the Sluder Mountain Hut and the Stallwies inn

Transacqua at the entrance to the Val Martello valley is followed by the farms and houses of Ganda di Martello (Gand in Martell), another district in the valley. From here the road branches off, which then leads uphill to the main village of Meiern. Down in the valley, the Plima Stream flows past and extensive meadows have space. To the south there is the hamlet of Santa Maria alla Fonderia with the well-known Martello Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing Centre. It offers a 12 km cross-country ski track, shooting stands, a rental shop and a cross-country ski school in winter.

The rear Val Martello with Lake Gioveretto is also easily accessible from here. The mighty glaciers of the Ortles Alps are reflected in the water of the reservoir and seem close enough to touch from the highest point of the hike along the Plima Gorge Trail. It is located where you have already crossed the suspension bridge and had a look from the platform into the impressive gorge. Then the route leads downwards, first to the Nino Corsi Mountain Hut and then to the hikers' car park.

At Ganda, the hike up to the Martello High Route, to the Sluder Hut and to the Stallwies inn starts. Ideal on hot summer days, it promises clear mountain air, alpine sun and some hours of relaxation in untouched nature. An alternative for families is the Rona Ranch with fish pond and barbecue area, where children from the age of three can learn fearless contact with large animals. In winter, Ganda di Martello has its own natural sledge run, which starts at the Café Hölderle, as well as a place for ice climbing. At the 9-metre-high Martello Ice Tower near the Waldheim Hotel, you can climb vertically at the foot of the Ortles-Cevedale Group - even just watching is exciting!
