Loden World and fine cheese, Vallarga and Fundres Mountains - that’s Vandoies, one of the first municipalities of the Val Pusteria
Passing the Rio Pusteria Fortress, you enter the charming Val Pusteria - one of the first municipalities to present itself is that of Vandoies. It extends via Vandoies di Sotto and Vandoies di Sopra on the valley floor to Vallarga at the entrance to the Fundres Valley with its eponymous mountains. There, Mt. Bassa Punta Bianca is enthroned as the highest point of the municipality. The Fundres High Route, one of the still more original long-distance hiking trails, runs from Vipiteno to Brunico in five days and offers an interesting insight into the history and customs of the area in the Val di Fundres.
In the valley, the handicraft businesses are successful and have become real visitor destinations: The two most famous are located next to each other at the so-called Lodenwelt, a small quarter of its own with shops, the Lodenwirt inn and precisely the Vandoies World of Loden Museum. The small, fine museum with an open-air area is entirely dedicated to the robust fabric that was once used by farmers and shepherds and was subsequently also discovered by high society. Today it is available in several colour shades and is highly valued in traditional and mountain fashion for its durability and good breathable properties.
Right next door is the Feinkäserei Capriz, a taste experience, but also a world of adventure and a shopping opportunity to buy some goat cheese. The fine cheese is of outstanding quality. Have you tasted and shopped enough? Now it's time for endurance: The "Pusterbike" cycle path and the hiking trails to the Weitenberg Mountain Hut or to the Fundres Pass invite you to be active in an inspiring landscape in summer. In winter you will find two cross-country ski tracks in the municipality and some of the most beautiful ski tours in South Tyrol in the Fundres Mountains.
