Colle di Dentro, Colle di Fuori, Planca di Sotto and Durna in Selva - these are the names of the small hamlets you pass when you branch off from the Val Pusteria and are welcomed in the Val Casies. Colle is the first of the three villages that make up the municipality of Casies: It occupies the entire 22 km long valley and reaches from Colle, the lowest village, up to the slopes of the Villgraten Mountains at the head of the valley. The mighty mountain giants seem to embrace and protect the valley with its flowering mountain meadows and the famous alpine pastures of Casies.
Colle (Pichl) also has its own mountain hut to offer: High above the village is the Houfa Hitte (Hofer Mountain Hut), which can be reached in an easy hike and then spoils you with its traditional home cooking. The tour to the small wooden hut with its sun terrace starts in the hamlet of Colle a Scandole (Schintlholz). At the bottom of the valley, you can enjoy the summer on the View-over-the-Casies Valley route called Talblickweg, which leads right through the entire valley, or simply relax on horseback: Flora, Twister and Gibbly, for example, are the names of the sure-footed horses of the Sun Ranch, which show you the surroundings from a different perspective.
The first snow usually falls in late autumn. The valley then becomes a destination for all those who associate winter with tranquillity and cosiness. One of the highlights are its sunny cross-country ski tracks, which are connected to the largest cross-country ski carousel in Europe: Dolomiti Nordicski with almost 1,000 km of tracks between South Tyrol and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The Val Casies cross-country skiing marathon, one of the most traditional ones in the region, takes place here. In addition, there is the Rossbrunn run in Colle, one of the toboggan runs in the valley.
