The sun rules in Terento: The village on the plateau high above the Val Pusteria valley awaits you with Earth Pyramids and mills
Terento in the Lower Val Pusteria, pretty much halfway between Bressanone and Brunico, is a sunny spot: This is probably why the settlement on the mountain river, the "Torrentum", was founded very early. This is where the name of the village comes from. Today Terento lies on the idyllic Val Pusteria Sun Road, the destination of panoramic drivers, mountain bikers and motorcyclists. It is a sprawling municipality that, in addition to the main village, also includes the district of Colli and hamlets such as Pino, Marga, Collalto, Sambuchi, Talsone, Monte Sole, Ast, Monte Neve and Lehen.
Already at the entrance to the village, a cheerful "Welcome to the sunny village of Terento" greets you. All around, nature invites you, including mighty Earth Pyramids that are easily accessible. They date back to the time when the Rio di Terento raged during a storm and destroyed numerous buildings. The deposited masses were eroded over time, leaving only columns of earth protected by a stone: the Earth Pyramids. They change from year to year and also remind a little of how transient everything is. The Terento Mills are at least as interesting: The Mill Trail shows you centuries-old wheel mills. In this case, the water power has positive benefits, as it used to help farmers grind the grain and provide food for their families.
Being active here is possible at any time of the year, in summer it is not as hot as in the valley basin due to the altitude. High above Terento, alpine pastures are scattered on the slopes of Mt. Cima di Terento, the Monte Gruppo and Mt. Al Giogo - the latter is a wonderful ski tour in winter. The peaks are destinations for mountain tours, but also below them you will find wonderful places like the Astner Mountain Hut and Lake Rio Verde along the Marmot Trail. The municipal area offers mini-golf, a tennis court, a riding stable, and - in winter - one of the toboggan runs in the Val Pusteria. But even then, the sun is not missing, and you can enjoy it best on the cross-country ski track or at the "natural solariums", two places where you can fill up with vitamin D.
