If stones could talk, then those of Mantana (Montal) would tell of the times when the Romans passed through the Val Pusteria valley and when later, about a millennium ago, the farmers in "Mantan" did their work in the fields. This became "Monthal": Today it is still the last German-speaking village before the beginning of the Ladin language area in the Val Badia valley.

The Gothic St. Margaret's Church with its mighty tower, on which the year 1492 is recognisable, towers in the village centre. The high altar is decorated with works by Joseph Renzler, who created the Christmas nativity scene in the parish church of San Lorenzo. A fire station and a children's playground are also part of Mantana, as well as the bowling alleys at the Hotel Alpenrose and the artificial grass pitches at the Lanerhof. A little away from Mantana is the Unterguggenberg Farm with the Mary Help of Christians Chapel, which was built by the farmer Josef Kronbichler in 1805. Johann Renzler, the brother of Joseph Renzler, decorated it with two frescoes.

You can keep fit on the fitness trail in Mantana or on a refreshing 45-minute hike to the pilgrimage site of Santa Maria di Sares. A forest and meadow path shows you this part of San Lorenzo di Sebato and then ends at the idyllic hamlet of Santa Maria di Sares with the Our Lady of Loreto Church and the Saalerwirt, one of the oldest inns in Tyrol, which is steeped in history. In Mantana itself, the Rossbühel hill is a popular recreation area in every season, with a barbecue place in summer and a natural ice-skating rink in winter. The ski bus & ski train takes you quickly and comfortably to the Plan de Corones Skiing Area, where skiers and snowboarders romp about.
