San Candido village

On the edge of San Candido, the lifts take you comfortably up to Mount Baranci with its Fun Bob and the Realm of the Giant

On a trip through the upper part of the Val Pusteria - on four wheels on the state road, on two wheels on the "Pusterbike" cycle path or using the Val Pusteria Railway, which stops in San Candido - you will pass one of the villages that make up the Alta Pusteria Holiday Region: San Candido. The main village of the market town, San Candido village, stretches right along the road to the foothills of the mighty Mount Baranci. The centre of the village looks like painted and welcomes you with urban flair and a traffic-calmed pedestrian zone, ideal for a leisurely stroll.

Here you will also get your money's worth if you are interested in culture, because every building seems to radiate history and tradition. Starting from the central square, you can reach the historic "Ausserkirchl", the small church outside the gates, in a short time: It is a unique witness to baroque popular piety with valuable figures inside. In addition, there is the oldest monastery in Tyrol, the majestic San Candido Collegiate Church dating back to the 8th century. Its MIK Museum im Kapitel, that's to say the Collegiate Museum, offers a good insight into the history of this area.

On a clear summer day, Mt. Baranci (Haunold) rises into the blue sky. This 2,966 m high adventure mountain is a popular destination for families, who can take the lifts directly from San Candido village (Innichen Dorf). High above, the Giant Baranci waits in his fabulous realm, where there are very real highlights such as themed paths and the Fun Bob on Mount Baranci, a summer toboggan run. In winter, this area is part of the large 3 Zinnen Dolomites Ski Resort. At lower altitudes, cross-country ski tracks and two sledge runs complete the active offer.
