Vila di Sopra

Vila di Sopra with its “Talile” (small valley) is a popular starting point for tours in the beauty of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park

The mountain village of Vila di Sopra (Oberwielenbach) is the largest locality in the municipality after Perca village. The houses cling to the slope above it and are scattered around the St. Nicholas Church. But a highlight for those interested in history is another church: The Lerchenkapelle chapel at the entrance to the village with its grotesque ornaments. These are delicate tendrils, animal and human figures, fantastic mixed creatures and architectural elements on the walls.

The hiking paradise Vedrette di Ries-Aurina is easy to reach here - the Valle di Vila valley is already located in this protected area. In this "Talile" (dialect for small valley), the Haidacher Mountain Hut, for example, produces its own butter and South Tyrolean mountain cheese and offers also other delicacies. Old restored fences along the paths and rustic huts characterise the landscape. The Lercher Hut is also a popular destination: In summer it offers mountain bikers an e-bike charging station, in winter it becomes the starting point of one of the toboggan runs in the Val Pusteria.

The mountain tour to the Montone (Rammelstein) high above Vila di Sopra, which takes several hours and requires sure-footedness, is more difficult. But you will be rewarded with wonderful panoramic views on the Val Pusteria and its mountains as well as a detour to the beautiful Gönner Mountain Hut. In winter, it's all about winter hikes, peace and quiet. The pulsating life can be found down in the valley: In Perca the lifts start to the famous Plan de Corones Skiing Area in winter, and in the next charming town the Brunico Christmas Market takes place in Advent with its scents, lights and handicraft products - for a special Christmas with gifts from the Val Pusteria valley.
