The 2,000 metres have already been overcome here and the surroundings can no longer be called rural, but alpine. From the village of Tesido, a mountain road leads further past the point Vecchio Mulino (Old Mill) on the Rio di Tesido up to the buildings that make up the Alpe di Tesido. It is a component locality of the municipality of Monguelfo-Tesido and can be reached on foot in a hike.
Below the alpine pasture, at the Mudler Mountain Hut, there is a large hikers' car park from which numerous tours start. One of them, as mentioned, leads to the alp itself. If there is snow, you can take the sledge for the way back: It is one of the toboggan runs in the Val Pusteria. In the warm months, especially in early summer, when it gets really warm in the valley, a variety of alpine flowers cover the meadows. It is the time when the cows are expected to enjoy their summer in the alpine pastures here, before the cattle drive takes them back down into the valley in autumn.
Fit enough? Starting from the Alpe di Tesido (Taistner Alm), you can tackle the four peaks Monte Luta, Monte Dura, Monte Novale and Roda di Scandole in a single round. In winter it is recommended in abbreviated form as snowshoe hike to two peaks. A refreshment in the hut with one of the rustic South Tyrolean dishes, or simply with a Jagertee, an alcoholic punch historically made by mixing rum with spiced black tea, is part of the experience and revitalises your spirits.
