Marebbe in the Val Badia valley tells of the Realm of the Fanes, wide open spaces of Mt. Plan de Corones and striking snow sculptures
The northernmost municipality of the Ladin-speaking Val Badia is called Marebbe and forms the connection between the front valley near Brunico and the rear part, the Alta Badia. Four charming villages - the famous San Vigilio in Marebbe as well as Pieve di Marebbe (Marebbe Parish), Rina and Longega - form the municipal area. In addition, there is the mountain hamlet of Pederü and the Val Tamores and Val dai Tamersc valleys. Small hamlets, the traditional "Viles", nestle on the slopes.
The Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park offers freedom and space for movement with its hiking destinations such as the Fanes Alp and the Senes Alp. On these magnificent high plateaus and between charming mountain huts you move in the Reign of Fanes, the legendary realm of the king's daughter Dolasilla. Mountain bikers may be familiar with the Fanes-Senes Circuit, which runs right through the nature park. In winter, the location of Marebbe at the foot of South Tyrol's largest skiing area, the Plan de Corones Ski Area also known as Kronplatz, pays off. It can be reached with the lift factilies from different sides, including the village of San Vigilio di Marebbe.
Cycling and hiking are possible in many parts of South Tyrol, but the municipal area of Marebbe combines the magnificent mountain world with many a unique adventure: Owls and birds of prey, for example, that have found a new home in the Owl Park San Vigilio, or the life-size wooden statues with clothes and hairstyles from bygone times that adorn the Al Plan Dolomites Museum. They can sometimes also be seen on the road when the landlord takes them for a drive in the car. Not adventurous enough? Then try the biggest zipline in Europe.
