Plata (Platten) near Falzes - not to be confused with Plata near Perca, also located in the Pusteria Valley - is the highest village that belongs to the extensive municipality of Falzes. The area here extends up the slope to 1,575 m a.s.l., where a few farms and houses dot the area. A mountain road that starts in the centre of Falzes takes you here.
One of the farms is the Bärental Farm, the starting point for the hike to the Bärental Mountain Hut and the majestic Mt. Cima Bärental in the Fundres Mountains. In winter, this is a recommendable ski tour in a wild natural landscape. On clear days, the view from the summit reaches as far as the Zillertal Alps to the north and the Dolomites to the south. Other mountain peaks above Plata are Mt. Sommo, known as a take-off point for paragliders, and Mt. Cima Plata. In summer you can combine both mountains for a two-summit traverse in the Val Pusteria low mountain range, in winter they also become beautiful destinations for a ski tour with 360 degrees panoramic views.
The activities offered in the different seasons are thus taken care of, and now it's time for culinary delights: On the mountain, the Plata Mountain Hut is a lovely spot with a sun terrace, offering typical alpine dishes and homemade cakes. In the valley you have the choice between the award-winning gourmet highlights at Schöneck Castle, a pizza at Lake Issengo and the traditional South Tyrolean dishes made with local products in the restaurants of Falzes village.
