Grimaldo

From San Giorgio near Brunico, a hike leads up to Grimaldo, and then past its fields and farms to Falzes on the Val Pusteria Sun Road

If you follow the road from Stegona to the sunny plateau of Falzes, you will see the turn-off to Grimaldo on the right in the middle of the woods. It is actually a hamlet surrounded by dense forests, with a few houses and a tavern along the road. Farms are scattered in the fields. A similar small village to this one is located a little further along the Falzes state road, in this case with a turn-off to the left: Irenberg. The best way to experience the surroundings is by cycling and hiking.

The "Rocks Tell a Tale" Path leads past Grimaldo (Greinwalden), one of the most beautiful hikes in the municipality. Through a gate made of dug-in stone pillars you reach the theme trail at Falzes, which then leads you through the natural and cultural landscape for 16 km. Dog rose, elder, bird cherry, hazel and blackthorn grow along the path, old dry stone walls are part of the heritage of this area. In between there are nice places to relax and enjoy the sun.

Above Grimaldo, on the other hand, towers Mt. Sommo, the local mountain of the municipality of Falzes. The panoramic mountain at the edge of the Fundres Mountains is best reached from Plata di Falzes, also part of Falzes. "Auf den Platten", as the southern foothills of the Mt. Sommo are called, is incidentally a popular and well-known take-off point for paragliders. In winter, both the active offers of Falzes and the Plan de Corones Skiing Area can be reached in a 15-minute drive.
