Obereggen, the well-known hiking and skiing area, is surrounded by spruce and larch forests at the foot of the Latemar
Above Ega, directly at the foot of the Latemar Group at an altitude of about 1,550 m, the houses and accommodation establishments of Obereggen are scattered. Right in the middle is the valley station of the lifts facilities that take you to the mountain world in summer and winter. The opening of the first lift dates back to the 1960s - the beginning of tourism in Obereggen...
This gave rise to today's hiking area and the Ski Center Latemar, which in winter offers 49 km of perfectly groomed slopes connected to Dolomiti Superski and reaching as far as the Val di Fiemme valley. Illuminated sledge runs, such as the one at the Malga Epircher-Laner, start at the surrounding mountain huts. If you prefer to walk, winter hiking trails lead to destinations such as the Ganischger and the Zischg Mountain Huts, the latter is the only refuge in the Latemar.
In summer, the small mountain village at the Latemar enchants with an inviting natural landscape of spruce and larch forests. The huts in between are also open in the warmer months and can be reached on foot, like the Mayrl Alm with its sun terrace, or by chairlift, like the Oberholz Mountain Hut, an architecturally interesting building and starting point for the tours in the Latemarium Obereggen. At the valley station, the Obereggen Adventure Park with its high-rope course then offers an exciting end of a day in the South Tyrolean mountains.
