Nova Ponente stretches from Thurn Castle in the main village to the Madonna di Pietralba Pilgrimage Site and the Obereggen Skiing Area
On the way to the Val d'Ega valley, after the Star Village of San Valentino in Campo, the road splits: On the left you go to Nova Levante and the picturesque Lake Carezza, on the right to Nova Ponente with the famous Latemar-Obereggen Ski Center. The municipality is located on the Regolo High Plateau on the western edge of the Dolomites: All around you can admire the mountain massifs of Sciliar, Catinaccio and Latemar, ideal for extended tours, whether on foot or by mountain bike.
Mount Regolo is crossed by alpine pastures where you can find small mountain huts which invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The panoramic hikes to the Laab Mountain Hut, to the Oberholz Mountain Hut, to the Häusler Sam Mountain Inn and high up to the Latemarium Adventure Kingdom with its spectacular viewing platform start from Nova Ponente. The paths to the various alpine pastures turn into beautiful winter hiking trails in the cold season, partly with the possibility of a sledge ride on the way back. The skilifts, on the other hand, take you to the well-known Obereggen Skiing Area, part of Dolomiti Superski.
The municipal area of Nova Ponente consists of four small villages, with Nova Ponente village being the main village and telling the history of the area in its museum. In addition, there are Ega and Obereggen with its skiing area, as well as Monte San Pietro. This fourth district is a little further away, on the way to Aldino in South Tyrol's south. A small mountain road leads from Monte San Pietro a little further uphill to the Madonna di Pietralba Pilgrimage Site, whose baroque church is called the "Cathedral in the Dolomites" and rises majestically above the valley.
