Where the Valle Isarco Road branches off to the right and climbs into the Val d'Ega, a subway brings you to the village centre of Cardano (Kardaun). It is one of the five districts of Cornedo. With its carabinieri station, post office, town hall and other facilities, it represents the administrative centre and, situated at an altitude of only 290 m a.s.l., it is also the lowest part of the municipality.
Cardano is surrounded by fertile vineyards and can be used as a good starting point for cycling and hiking tours. On the valley floor, the Valle Isarco Cycle Path takes you all the way to Bressanone and offers a sculpture garden called "Augenreise" (Eye Journey) on the 6 km long section of the "Bolzano - Cardano - Prato all'Isarco Artistic Bike Path". It is a project of the sheltered workshop KIMM, which has been artistically active here under the motto "Kunst kennt keine Behinderung" (Art knows no handicap) and has created a colourful oasis next to the state road.
Two interesting themed trails also start in Cardano, below Cornedo Castle. One of them is the Kuntersweg, a trail which connected Bolzano with the Brennero Pass already in the 14th century. The section between Cardano and Colma, which is full of gorges, could be walked on the Kuntersweg without any arduous ascents and descents. Today, the old travel route has become a hiking trail that you can experience in 2.5 hours. In addition, the South Tyrolean Pearl Trail, a multi-day hike to the Passo Nigra, and the Knight's Path start here.
