If you turn into the Val d'Ega from Bolzano, just before the Val d'Ega road curves uphill towards Nova Levante and the Carezza Pass, the municipality of Cornedo all'Isarco is located. With its five districts between the Isarco river, the Val d'Ega Stream and the Braibach brook, Cornedo all'Isarco is today a small holiday resort in the Catinaccio-Latemar holiday region, close to Bolzano. Cornedo Castle towers majestically high above the village on a steep rocky hill of the Cornedo Mountain.
Cornedo begins in Prato all'Isarco, still in the Valle Isarco valley, and extends to the mountain village of San Valentino in Campo, 15 km away and located 800 m higher up. Together with Collepietra, it is the largest district of Cornedo: Here you will find the famous Astronomical Observatory Max Valier, the Planetary Trail and the Planetarium South Tyrol. The entire universe is at home in this First European Star Village in the Val d'Ega. Collepietra, on the other hand, is known for its earth pyramids, unique natural phenomena high above the Val di Tires.
In summer, the mountain landscape around Cornedo all'Isarco invites you to hiking and cycling tours, which continue in the valley basin near Prato all'Isarco on the Valle Isarco Cycle Path all the way to the bishop's town of Bressanone. In the opposite direction, the Val d'Adige Cycle Path takes you to Merano. In winter, the snow-covered landscape can be best explored on snowshoes, and the ski areas of the Val d'Ega are only a short distance away: the Ski Center Latemar-Obereggen and the Ski Area Carezza Dolomites in the middle of the legendary kingdom of King Laurin.
