Magrè village

Magrè boasts the most ancient grapevine of South Tyrol dating back to 1601

Magrè, a charming village at the foot of the Favogna mountain, is located at 243 m a.s.l. The Rio di Favogna brook runs through the village centre, where contorted alleys and constructions of bygone centuries still shine in their original splendour. German Gothic, Baroque and meridional Renaissance elements have been combined to form a fascinating architectural unit. Portals, arched windows and graceful loggias provide the village with a remarkable Mediterranean flair.

Even if the vineyards of Magrè are not that sun-drenched like other may be, the grapevines flourish very well in this area. Close to the residence Feichter in the Vicolo dei Conti road, there is even the most ancient vineyard of South Tyrol, twining at the façade of the building. Planted in 1601, this grape still bears fruits. However, one of the buildings that is worth to be visited in the village is the birth house of the painter Karl Anrather (1861 - 1893). This artist also realised the allegoric seasons at the residence Löwengang in the Vicolo dei Conti.

Our tip: in the south of the village, there is the Via Ferrata Magrè-Favogna, making you enjoy a breathtaking view. To those, however, who prefer cosy walks, we recommend a hike along the so-called “Römerweg” trail, taking to the high-altitude plateau of Favogna.
