Penone is located on a slope between 500 and 650 m a.s.l., in an idyllic panoramic position. Situated in the south west of Cortaccia, this small but mighty village is characterised by vineyards and ancient farms. Its parish church dedicated to Saint Nicholas dates back to the 14th century and boasts a sandstone tabernacle that is worth to be taken a closer look at. It dates back to 1380 and is the most ancient of its kind in South Tyrol.
Walking through the village you come across vineyards and shady forests as well as single groups of farmsteads. A hike along the “Koflweg” trail, however, leads to the castle-like residence of Voldersberg dating back to the 16th century.
