The heart of Appiano: a cultural and economic hub in a multifaceted municipality

When people talk about Appiano, they usually mean San Michele (St. Michael): As the largest village and main town of the municipality, it houses the town hall, the Lanserhaus with its archaeological exhibition and art gallery, and hosts the farmers' market every Tuesday.
Crenellated walls, bay windows, and external staircases characterise the houses in the centre, showcasing the Oltradige construction style - a late Gothic design with influences from the Italian Renaissance. Arriving from Bolzano and heading south, you'll reach the Appiano roundabout before the tunnel. From the bus station there, the road to the right leads you to San Michele.
Maderneto, Crocevia, and Piganò are also part of the village. The proximity to the regional capital, Bolzano, just nine kilometres away, and excellent public transport links make San Michele Appiano a central and popular holiday destination. If you take the left turn at the roundabout, you'll reach the Monticolo Lakes in the Monticolo Forest nature reserve.
San Michele offers a diverse programme of events: open-air festivals in the park, the long shopping evenings in the village streets during July and August, and the Appiano Bike Days, where local guides show you the most beautiful cycling routes in Eppan. In winter, lanterns line the streets at the "Appiano Eppan Advent" with its Christmas Market.
