On the western edge of Appiano on the Wine Road lies Riva di Sotto (Unterrain) at the foot of the Monte Macaion. Fruit farms and historic manor houses, such as the Hungerhausen Estate, line the road towards Andriano, nestled among expansive apple orchards and vineyards. The village's small church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas in 1512, recalls Riva di Sotto's former role as a customs station.
The patron saint of merchants and travellers underscores the former importance of this location. The steeple wasn't added until the 17th century. In spring, the air is filled with the fragrance of apple blossom. Whether on foot or by bike, the old road connecting the Pillhof commercial area with Andriano runs parallel to the MeBo Motorway and invites you to explore the surroundings.
The spring hike from the orchards in the Adige Valley to Predonico is especially popular. This three-hour tour through the Appiano countryside offers magnificent panoramic views.
On the edge of the village, the Appiano Golf Club, designed by the German golf architect Thomas C. Himmel, blends harmoniously into the landscape. From the road, you can see the clubhouse with its restaurant. Behind it lies the 9-hole course "The Blue Monster" - its water features a playful contrast to its partner course, "The Mountain Beast", at the Passo di Costalunga.
