The small hamlet of Predonico, a tranquil hiking haven above the Valle dell’Adige valley

From San Michele, a well-maintained mountain road climbs to the elevated slopes above the Adige Valley. Especially in summer, the temperatures here are pleasantly cooler than in the valley below. The panoramic view of the regional capital, Bolzano, and the Dolomites beyond is breathtaking.
Holidays in this small village promise peace and relaxation. In Predonico (Perdonig), far from the traffic in the valley, hiking and mountain bike trails beckon. Mixed woodlands stretch across the slopes of the Monte Macaion, surrounding the houses and inviting to explore the surroundings.
The Appiano High Route - also accessible by mountain bike - and other paths crisscross the area. The region has a rich history: On the Vigilius Hill, remains of a late-antique hilltop settlement and prehistoric fortified settlements, defensive structures with walls of stone or logs, were discovered. Among the finds were a shield boss, a rider's spur, a strap tongue, and a horse brooch.
Today, the charming parish church dedicated to the Saints Vigilius and Ulrich stands on the hill. It was built in 1799 by Hieronymus von Vintschger, a member of a minor noble family from Appiano. However, remaining sections of walls indicate that a place of worship existed on this site as early as the 6th century. The church was renovated and extended in 1992.
