In the sun-drenched village of Cornaiano above the valley basin, it’s all about fine wines
Houses, vines, and wineries shape the image of Cornaiano (Girlan) - here, it's all about the wine. The beautiful panoramic location on the plateau above San Michele Appiano and Frangarto makes the village not only an ideal wine-growing area, but also a popular place to live.
The houses in the Oltradige construction style with their characteristic archways and bay windows tell stories of bygone eras and are reminiscent of small manor houses. In the centre stands the Parish Church of St. Martin. Every year on November 11, the atmospheric St. Martin's Market takes place around the church. Autumnal delicacies and music create a festive atmosphere.
But Cornaiano knows how to celebrate in other months, too: "The last cartload of grapes" marks the end of the grape harvest, and the Cornaiano Cellar Festival celebrates wine and the local wineries that produce it. Descending into the subterranean world of the village and exploring the historic cellars while enjoying a good glass of wine is a special experience. Incidentally, the wineries are also regularly represented at Vinitaly, the international wine and spirits exhibition in Verona.
The sunshine entices you to hike to the Monticolo Lakes and along the Cornaiano Wine Trail, or to cycle to Predonico and Gaido, along the Oltradige Cycle Path to Lake Caldaro, and up to the Mendola Pass. And, of course, the traditional inns invite you to stop in for a relaxing break.
