Promenades such as the Falkner Path, the Tappeiner Promenade and the Castle Path take you to the sights of the surroundings
Tirolo village (Dorf Tirol), the heart and main village of the municipality of Tirolo, spreads out on the Monte Benedetto between the Merano basin and the entrance to the Val Passiria. The village itself is younger than the castle, which proudly thrones on the castle hill that was already settled in primeval times. Built as the ancestral seat of the Counts of Tyrol, it gave its name to the entire country: The County of Tyrol was once administered from here, and today it houses the South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History, which takes you on a journey back in time.
The second museum of the village is located below, also in historical walls: the Agricultural Museum in Fontana Castle. A footpath, which can only be walked, leads to the two sights and starts in the centre of Tirolo village. There is a promenade with cafés and shops before the centre of the village gathers around the town hall, the Parish Church of St. John and the Carabinieri station. The bus also stops there, so you can easily make a trip to Merano from Tirolo.
On the other hand, there are sports facilities on the edge of the holiday resort, such as the football pitch and the outdoor swimming pool, which opens in summer. Tirolo village likes to celebrate: Between the Tyrolean Spring of Culture in April, the soirées at Tyrol Castle in summer and VinoCulti in autumn, there is always something to enjoy, visit and listen to. During Advent, Tyrol Castle is transformed into a Christmas land, with music and hot drinks in a special atmosphere.
