Tesimo village (Tisens Dorf), the main village in the municipality and home to the town hall, charms visitors with its sunny location in the low mountains. The bus stops right in the centre, where you'll find the parish church, the tourist information office, and a grocery shop. Your physical well-being is also catered for: In the narrow alleyways and small streets of Tesimo, you'll find an ice cream parlour, a butcher's shop, a pizzeria, and the restaurant Zum Löwen, run by celebrated chef Anna Matscher. She's recommended in gourmet guides like Michelin and Gault&Millau, and has been honoured with awards such as "Chef of the Year".
During a stroll through the village, the Church of the Assumption of Mary is well worth a visit. Originally Romanesque, it was later expanded with Gothic elements. Here, you can admire the family vaults of the Counts and the remarkable stained-glass windows of the Augsburg School, which are among the most significant in Tyrol. The area around Tesimo also invites exploration.
Discover, for instance, the International Felt Art Trail, which begins right in the village. On this unique European trail, artworks made from felted sheep's wool line your path through the mixed forest. On hot summer days, the heated swimming pool at the Tesimo campsite offers a welcome respite. In autumn, however, everything revolves around the chestnut.
Roasted "Keschtn" are an integral part of the Toerggele evenings. Hotly peeled and refined with butter, they are a true delight. The Tesimo chestnuts, along with those from Lana, have been renowned far and wide since the 15th century. It's no wonder, then, that the annual Keschtnriggl Chestnut Festival takes place between these villages, duly celebrating this delicious fruit.
