1,000 metres of altitude separate the lowest and highest hamlets in Tesimo: While Schernag lies in the valley, the mountain village of Plazzoles (Platzers) perches on the Passo Palade road, surrounded by almost untouched nature, and overlooked by the Monte di Fuori and the Monte di Dentro mountains. The Giogo di Plazzoles, the Monte Luco, the Caprile Mountain Hut below Lake Monte Luco, and other worthwhile hiking destinations are accessible from here.
Mountain bikers, for example, enjoy tackling the Giogo di Plazzoles saddle from Lana. In the village centre stands the Church of St. Sebastian. Destroyed by fire in the 16th century, it was rebuilt in 1898 in the neo-Romanesque style. Platzers, however, was mentioned several centuries earlier. The oldest farms are called Baumgart, Lahngut, Hofer, Egger, Marzein, Brünst, and Moser. At one end of the village, you'll find the volunteer fire brigade, and at the other, a mountain inn.
It's a popular resting place for hikers and mountain bikers offering South Tyrolean specialities. If you'd like to explore the high plateau, you can descend from Plazzoles to Foiana on foot and return by bus. The bus stop in Tesimo is located at the turn-off to Plazzoles. Old mountain farms and magnificent views of the Valle dell'Adige and the Val Passiria valleys await you.
Uphill, the physically demanding hike to the Gallhöfe farms, the Foiana Hunting Lodge, called Völlaner Jagdhütte, and the Giogo di Foiana saddle takes about three and a half hours.
