1,000 metres of altitude separate the lowest district of Tesimo, Schernag, from the highest: The mountain village of Plazzoles (Platzers) lies on the Passo Palade Road in an almost untouched natural setting and is overlooked by the Monte di Dentro and Monte di Fuori, literally the Inner Mountain and the Outer Mountain. The Plazzoles Ridge, the Monte Luco, the Caprile Hut on Passo Palade and several other special hiking destinations can be reached from here: The above-mentioned Plazzoles Ridge is also popular among mountain bikers starting from Lana.
In the centre you can find the St. Sebastian Church, which was destroyed by a fire in the 16th century and rebuilt in 1898 in neo-Romanesque style. The village was mentioned already a few centuries earlier: The oldest farms are called Baumgart, Lahngut, Hofer, Egger, Marzein, Brünst and Moser. At one end of Plazzoles is the volunteer fire brigade, at the other end an inn which offers homemade South Tyrolean specialities, a popular stop for hikers and mountain bikers.
If you want to explore the entire high plateau, you can descend from Plazzoles to Foiana and return by bus. It stops in Tesimo at the junction to Plazzoles. Old mountain farms and wonderful views on the Adige Valley and into the Val Passiria await you here. The hike to the Gallhöfe farms, the Foiana Hunting Lodge and the Foiana Ridge, on the other hand, is more demanding in terms of fitness and leads uphill. It takes about three and a half hours to be completed.
