The small mountain village of Grissiano (Grissian) lies south of Prissiano at an altitude of around 800 metres. Those seeking tranquillity will find relaxation here amidst mountains, meadows, and fields. The village's houses are spread across various farmsteads with their outbuildings, often accessible via their own small access roads. Hikes and cycling tours can be started directly from the village. A hiking trail leads to the nearby Prissiano, the municipality's second main village.
There you'll find shops and restaurants. For those with good stamina, a circular hike to the surrounding villages is recommended, including Sirmiano di Sotto and Sirmiano di Sopra above Nalles, Grissiano, and Prissiano. This 3.5-hour tour partially follows the Path of Reflection to the Seven Sacraments with its light-filled glass columns by the artist Christoph Gabrieli from Tesimo.
The hike also leads past the Church of St. James, which is widely known. The unique 13th-century church houses something special: the first depiction of the Dolomites. The other frescoes of the Monte Maria School are among the most important Romanesque frescoes in South Tyrol.
Therefore, St. James is also part of the "Alpine Road of Romanesque Art - Stairways to Heaven", a project connecting preserved Romanesque cultural sites between South Tyrol and Grisons in Switzerland. In the summer, you can register for a guided tour of the church at the tourist office.
