Amidst meadows and woods, at the entrance to the Val Passiria, Verdines with the eponymous Waalweg path is located
Verdines (Verdins), a district of Scena and an enchanting mountain village, is already located in the Val Passiria valley. Peace and nature dominate everyday life here. In the village centre, around the church tower, people meet for a chat or a cappuccino in the village café. The church with the worth-seeing glass windows and the depiction of the Lord's Supper on the low relief of the altar is only a few decades old. It is directly attached to the old church.
However, the history of Verdines dates back much further. At the so-called Franzosenbühel hill, where wild battles took place at the time of the French siege, a prehistoric and early historic settlement is assumed. The village name itself was already written down in the 13th century as Vridins. Today, many hiking paths lead from Verdines into the mountain world of the rugged Sarentino Alps. The Verdines Cable Car, which leads from the edge of the village to the hamlet of Talle, which lies about 600 metres higher and is also part of Scena, offers support.
Besides the Scena Waalweg path, which starts in Verdines and takes you to the main village, also the Verdines Waalweg path or Verdinser Waalweg, which leads towards north to the Waaler Hut, is very popular. The small hut at more than 1,000 m a.s.l. awaits you with homemade products and cakes. More demanding is the hike on the Picco Ivigna, but the local mountain of Scena rewards with a breathtaking panoramic view on the Adige Valley and the surrounding mountain world.
