The Verdines Waalweg path and the Sarentino Alps are located high above Scena
Verdines (Verdins), a hamlet of Scena, lies at the entrance to the Val Passiria. Tranquillity and nature define this mountain village. Around the church steeple, people gather for a chat or a cappuccino in the village café. The church, only a few decades old, is dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and is directly adjacent to the old chapel. Its stained-glass windows and the depiction of the Last Supper on a bas-relief at the altar are worth seeing.
The history of Verdines stretches back a long way. A prehistoric settlement is suspected on the Franzosenbühel (literally: French Hill), where fierce battles once took place during the Napoleonic siege. The place name itself is recorded as early as the 13th century as "Vridins". Numerous hiking trails lead from Verdines into the Sarentino Alps. The Verdines Cable Car, which takes you from the edge of the village to the hamlet of Talle, situated about 600 metres higher, is a practical aid.
Talle also belongs to Scena. In addition to the Scena Waalweg path, which starts in Verdines and leads to the main village, the Verdines Waalweg path is also popular. It winds its way north from the village centre to the Waaler Mountain Hut at an altitude of over 1,000 metres.
Homemade products and cakes await you there. More challenging is the hike to the Picco Ivigna, Scena's local mountain at 2,581 metres and known as Ifinger in German. You will be rewarded with magnificent panoramic views over the Adige Valley and the surrounding mountains.
