Picturesque Scena: Nestled between Mt. Picco Ivigna and Mt. Cervina - castle, mausoleum, and South Tyrolean mountain culture
Scena and Tirolo share a sunny plateau high above Merano. Only the Val Passiria valley entrance separates these two popular holiday destinations. Scena's municipal area stretches from the rooftops of Merano to the main village of Schenna and up to Montescena at the foot of the Picco Ivigna. Nestled among the meadows, forests, and orchards of the Merano region lie the idyllic villages of San Giorgio, Talle, and Verdines, as well as the hamlet of Videgg with its historic mountain inns.
Once a primarily agricultural community, Scena has blossomed into one of South Tyrol's most sought-after holiday resorts. Its most famous landmark, Scena Castle, lends its name to the municipality. Built around 1350 AD under Margaret, Countess of Tyrol, the castle is still inhabited by the descendants of Archduke Johann, whose remains rest in the nearby mausoleum. Both castle and mausoleum can be visited as part of fascinating guided tours.
Various events also take place regularly, such as the Südtirol Classic, a vintage car rally, and the "Bauernkuchl - Farmer's Kitchen", a traditional farmers' market that enlivens the streets of the main village in summer and autumn. Scena entices visitors outdoors year-round.
The Verdines-Scena Waalweg path, the Meadow Path, and the Scena-Cervina-Merano 2000 Nature Fitness Park offer plenty of activities during the summer. The Scena panoramic pool also provides refreshing respite. Higher up, mountain hikes lead to the alpine pastures on Mt. Punta Cervina and to the Taser Mountain Hut, a family-friendly alpine pasture, also accessible by cable car.
In autumn, Scena, against the magnificent backdrop of Mt. Punta Cervina and Mt. Picco Ivigna, transforms into a popular Toerggele area - wherever wine grows, it takes place. In winter, the Montescena toboggan run and the Merano 2000 Skiing Area above Merano beckon.
