In a sunny location below the peaks of Mt. Ivigna and Mt. Cervina lies the holiday village of Scena with its castle and mausoleum
Scena spreads out with Tirolo on the sunny terrace above the spa town of Merano: Only the aisle that forms the entrance to the Val Passiria separates the two popular holiday resorts. The area of the panoramic municipality stretches from the rooftops of Merano to the main village of Scena and on to Mt. Montescena at the foot of Mt. Ivigna. Nestled in the meadows, forests and orchards of the Merano region, the villages of San Giorgio, Talle and Verdines join in, completed by the hamlet of Videgg with its historic South Tyrolean mountain inns.
In recent years, the once rural municipality has developed into one of the most important holiday resorts in South Tyrol. The most famous sight also gave the municipality its name: Scena Castle, built around 1350 in the time of the Tyrolean sovereign Margarete Maultasch. Even today, the descendants of Archduke John of Austria, whose mortal remains are kept in the mausoleum near the castle, inhabit the ancient walls and offer guided tours through the castle and mausoleum. In between, there are celebrations again and again: The Südtirol Classic Scena, a classic car rally in the heart of the Alps, and the Farmer's Kitchen enliven the streets of the main village in summer and autumn.
Scena draws its visitors out into the countryside at any time of the year. The Waalweg path from Verdines to Scena, the Meadow Path and the Nature Fitness Park Scena-Cervina-Merano 2000 invite you to summer activities, with a cool down in the Scena panoramic pool. Further up, mountain hikes lead to the alpine pastures on Mt. Cervina and, with the Taser Mountain Hut there is a popular family excursion destination that can also be reached by cable car. In autumn, Scena becomes a Toerggele area in front of the magnificent backdrop of Mt. Ivigna and Mt. Cervina. For winter fun there is a sledge run on the Montescena, and the Merano 2000 Skiing Area.
