A legendary castle, a special beer brewery and an inn - Foresta, in Italian, or Forst, in German, is the southernmost part of Lagundo
On the right bank of the Adige and on the southernmost edge of the municipality of Lagundo are the houses of Foresta. They hide behind the two dominant buildings of the village: Vorst Castle and the Forst Brewery. It is well-known to every South Tyrolean - it is the largest brewery in the region and one of the most modern in Europe, with exports to numerous countries. Spring water and natural ice storage characterise Forst beer, which has been brewed here for five generations.
The Forst World includes the Brewery Garden and the Brewery Tavern, connected by the covered bridge over the road, which is well known to anyone who has ever driven from Merano into the Val Venosta. In addition, there is the historic Schlosswirt with the Luisl Parlour, awarded by gourmet magazines such as the Michelin Guide, Gault&Millau, Guide de l'Espresso, Falstaff Guide and Gambero Rosso. In winter, the Forst World is home to the Christmas Forest with bonfires and blankets on the armchairs. A limited edition of Christmas Beer is brewed for this every year.
The second striking building, Vorst or Foresta Castle, was built around 1300 and greets you at the entrance to the village. The minnesinger Oswald von Wolkenstein is said to be held captive here by his lover Sabina Jäger. Two knights and brothers, one of whom died in a quarrel, are said to ghost through the old walls still today. Directly opposite, on the other bank of the Adige, is the sports ground of Lagundo with its outdoor swimming pool. Today, hiking paths lead past the village, including the popular Marlengo Waalweg path, with 12 km the longest one in South Tyrol.
