From Pineta, the road climbs towards the smallest and highest situated district of Laives, La Costa (Seit). While the town and its other districts in the Adige valley floor are at an altitude of about 250 metres, La Costa lies already at 750 to 1,100 m a.s.l. The mountain farms are located on the sunny slope of Mount Pozza: It is the highest point of the Colle, the local mountain of Bolzano.
The centre of La Costa is the community building, which used to house the one-room school, and the little church dedicated to the Blessed Henry of Bolzano. Then the farms scatter in the meadows, connected by a mountain road that is also popular among mountain bikers. They can complete the bike tour to Colle and La Costa on the eastern slope of Bolzano and Laives on it.
The well-known Laives High Route starts in the Vallarsa Valley and climbs up over the Montelargo to La Costa and the Bolzano district of Aslago. From the hamlet, you can also hike up to the Rocce Rosse viewpoint, walk to the Schneiderwiesen meadows or hike to the mountain village of Colle. The view extends from the valley basin of Bolzano to Merano and Salorno, and over the Mendola ridge to the Brenta Dolomites and King Ortles. Due to the sunny location, chestnut trees grow here, so in autumn roasted chestnuts with butter are offered at the traditional Toerggelen.
