The names Oltrisarco and Aslago date back to the High Middle Ages, indicating early settlement in this part of Bolzano. As recently as the 1960s, Haslach consisted of just a few farms. Near the St. Gertrude Church is one of South Tyrol's healing springs. Aslago expanded significantly in the following decades and now forms the southern part of Bolzano.
Oltrisarco-Aslago (Oberau-Haslach) stretches from the edge of San Giacomo near Laives to the Maso della Pieve sports facilities and further to the town cemetery and the Via Claudia Augusta road towards the Virgolo hill. The Bolzano industrial zone is also part of Oltrisarco-Aslago. Here, you'll find well-known companies such as the ceramics manufacturer Thun and TechnoAlpin, which provided snow-making equipment for events like the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
There's even a museum here: The Bolzano Cinema Museum, or Ciné Museum, exhibits artefacts from the beginnings of cinema in the 1920s to the present day - most of them from the region. The bus stop directly at the Bolzano Fair - the stop is called Bolzano Sud-Fiera - provides easy access to the various trade fairs by public transport. The Isarco River separates the district from the town centre. High above Aslago sits the striking Flavon Castle, now a restaurant with a SkyBar.
The nearby car park in the forest is a popular starting point for hikes up the Monte Regolo and to the Virgolo. Hikes with magnificent views of Bolzano start here, for example, the Laives High Route. Down in the district runs the panoramic bike tour between the hamlet of Colle and Laives.
