A convertible cable car, unique in Italy, takes you now from San Cipriano to the Frommer Mountain Hut on the Catinaccio
The small village of San Cipriano (St. Zyprian) extends at the turnoff towards Bagni di Lavina Bianca and Ciamin Valley, after the main village of Tires. The little St. Cyprian Church, which gives the village its name, is also enthroned here. It is dedicated to St. Cyprian and St. Justina of Antioch and was built in the 13th century. The outside of the church shows the legend of the Platzliner Meadow in a mural that was added later: God hurled lightning from the sky, and Cyprian and Justina held their coats protectively over the grazing flock on the meadow.
Today, the idyllic mountain village is popular among those seeking peace and quiet and nature lovers who start from here on tours such as the Catinaccio d'Antermoia Via Ferrata and the hike around the Catinaccio massif. The trails are also accessible in winter with snowshoes or touring skis. Above San Cipriano stretches the "Proa", an alpine meadow from where the famous alpine glow is perfectly visible at sunset - the perfect end to a day in the mountains.
With the new connection to the Frommer Mountain Hut at 1,740 m a.s.l., San Cipriano has been offering you since Christmas 2022 direct access to the hiking area below the Catinaccio Group, which becomes the popular Carezza Dolomites Ski Area in winter. This convertible cable car is a very special experience, the first of its kind in Italy: From a panoramic balcony, you can enjoy the mountain ride from the front row, so to speak, in the fresh air and in complete safety. 10 people are allowed to experience this exclusive adventure, the cable car itself offers space for 60 people.
