Welcome to "Velser Oacha", as the inhabitants call the area of Aica di Fiè (Völser Aicha) in local dialect. It is one of the many districts that make up the municipality of Fiè allo Sciliar. The actual village here is Aica di Sopra (Oberaicha), the first village on the way to the Sciliar area, which stretches along the northern slope of the Tires Valley. There, Earth Pyramids grow into the sky like bizarre natural phenomena and vineyards and orchards are scattered on the slopes.
In the centre of Aica di Sopra stands the St. John the Baptist Church with its red tiled roof. The lower part of the steeple and the apse date back to the Romanesque period in the 13th century, other parts date back to the 19th century. These extensions and connections of different stylistic epochs can be seen in numerous churches in South Tyrol. In addition, situated a bit lower, there is the district of Aica di Sotto (Unteraicha): The slope there almost reaches into the Tires Valley.
The 24th of June 1920 went down in the history of Aica di Fiè: On that day, the old-established music band gave a concert at the fair again after a long break. Today, Aica di Sopra and Aica di Sotto are quiet holiday destinations, ideally situated between the opportunities offered by the town of Bolzano and the magnificent landscape of the Siusi Alp, Catinaccio and Sciliar Massif.
