Three historic hills, on which wall castles once stood, surround Tisana: the Percol, the Kofel and the Katzenlocher Bühel

The small mountain village next to the main village of the municipality of Castelrotto has retained its own rural flair until today. In German it is called Tisens, such as the village of Tesimo, also called Tisens, in ther Merano region above Lana and Nalles. The houses and farms are grouped around the St. Nicholas Church. It has a remarkable sky-blue ceiling inside and on the outer façade, interestingly, a large fresco not of the church's patron saint, but of St. Christopher.
Surrounded by the mountain scenery of the Santner Peak and the Sciliar Massif, which protect Tisana from the wind, hikes and bike tours, horseback rides and walks through the forest await you. One of the paths leads from here to the Tagusa School Museum, another district of Castelrotto, which tells of the times of the one-room schools in South Tyrol. From Siusi allo Sciliar, easily accessible by bus, the cable car takes you directly to the Siusi Alp, so that you can reach Europe's largest high alpine pasture with its unique panorama in half an hour.
In winter, Tisana becomes a place of tranquillity - the cows that normally graze on the pastures around the village are in the stables. Winter hiking paths stretch through the countryside near the village and into the surrounding villages of Castelrotto, and the Alpe di Siusi Ski Area becomes a hot spot for skiers, sledders, cross-country skiers and snowshoe hikers. A more leisurely experience is a horse-drawn sleigh ride, a romantic experience with the tinkling of bells.
