In the landscape between Siusi allo Sciliar and the Alpe di Siusi, Castelrotto is enthroned with its Museum of Traditional Costumes
Castelrotto borders on Fiè allo Sciliar, or more precisely on its district of Siusi allo Sciliar, where the Alpe di Siusi Cable Car starts. The entire area of the municipality then extends high above the Isarco Valley up to the Siusi Alp, whose hotel settlement of Compaccio is also part of Castelrotto, and down to the slopes of the Val Gardena, where the villages of Bulla, Roncadizza and Oltretorrente are located. They belong to the Ladin cultural circle and are therefore usually counted to the Gardena Valley, but are administratively part of Castelrotto.
It is probably the "Kastelruther Spatzen" musical group (literally the Sparrows of Castelrotto), whose songs have been spreading the name of Castelrotto throughout the entire German-speaking world for years and have therefore become the most important ambassadors of the idyllic holiday village. In addition, it is the spectacular nature of the Sciliar Massif and the Alpe di Siusi with its extensive range of activities that makes Castelrotto a popular holiday destination. Here you can hike to the Witches' Benches on Mt. Bullacia, try out the Dolomite climbing routes on the Santner and Euringer Peaks on Mount Sciliar, improve your tee at the San Vigilio Siusi Golf Club, and then end the summer day comfortably in the open-air swimming pool in Telfen.
The fragrant herbs at the Pflegerhof farm and cultural destinations such as the Tagusa School Museum and the Tschötscher Farm Life Museum offer variety. All this together also motivated the association "I borghi più belli d'Italia" (The most beautiful places in Italy) to include Castelrotto in its list with the reference "Among the alpine pastures of paradise". in winter, the historic territory of Oswald von Wolkenstein and Johann Santner then becomes a skiing and cross-country skiing area, extending over the wide plateaus of the Alpe di Siusi and connected to that of the Val Gardena valley. The popular horse-drawn carriage and sleigh rides also give you the opportunity to discover the Alpe di Siusi in a special way, with warm tea and wrapped in a cosy blanket.
